Padel Ranking System: How PadelLevels Transformed Competition at Sevenoaks

Sevenoaks Padel opened in January 2025, meeting a growing demand for padel in the South East. Like many new clubs, we quickly ran into a familiar challenge: finding a reliable padel ranking system to accurately rate players.
Initially, we took inspiration from general padel level guidelines and created our own ranking system to level most of our now 3,000+ app users. Inevitably, we misjudged a few and players progressed quickly. We needed a smarter, scalable solution – something that could take the pressure off staff making judgement calls. That’s when we turned to PadelLevels, a data-driven padel ranking system designed to reflect real match performance over time.
Padel Rankings Driving Growth and Friendly Competition
Upon launching our PadelLevels Box Leagues on January 13th, we immediately had 14 leagues between men’s, ladies and mixed with a total of 152 players. The appetite for the chance to improve, learn more about the game, engage in friendly competition and meet like-minded players of a similar level was met by the introduction of the box leagues. Furthermore, we now have a way of independently ranking our players that tracks their progress over a long period of time in an accessible visual way.
Mike Wright, the co-founder of Sevenoaks Padel, alongside James Hall, says “as squash players we have been users of SquashLevels for many years and understand how sophisticated the algorithm is to level players. We wanted to bring this to our padel club to utilise the functionality of the box leagues and the resulting PadelLevels.”

Understanding the algorithm feeds off data, we know that the more quality data we supply, the more accurate and reflective of a player’s level the ratings become. Consequently, the box leagues have encouraged others to record friendly matches on the system to facilitate a more indicative level, while the box league functionality in general allows for sustained competition through rolling over each league.
How a Padel Ranking System Helped Build Community at Sevenoaks
A natural consequence of playing good padel matches (especially if you lose!) is wanting to play the same people again! As a result, we have seen an uptick in high-quality games through different players meeting via the box leagues. This has also allowed us as a club to identify the top players and organise higher-level socials to both improve and have fun. Moreover, using PadelLevels proved another commonality between Sevenoaks and Limpsfield, leading to a club friendly night between the two clubs earlier in the year.
Looking ahead
Sevenoaks Padel will look to continue attracting top players to join the box leagues, with the aim of creating as many high-level boxes as possible. This will help build towards the long-term goal of creating inter-club competition to continue to grow padel in the UK and in the South East.
